Microsoft Windows 11

The printer screen is blank with a ? beside it.  The HP scan doctor and Microsoft smart  app say the printer is

undetermined on my USB/Network.  The software is up to date and I can print a test page, but I don't know why

the printer screen doesn't show anything, or why a ? is showing.

When encountering a blank screen with a "?" beside it on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure the printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the HP support website.

Reconnect to the Network/USB:

  • If the printer is connected via USB, try using a different USB cable or port.
  • If connected via network, ensure that the printer is properly connected to the network and the network settings are correct.

Run a Diagnostic Tool:

  • Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix issues.

Check Printer Display Connection:

  • Sometimes the display connection might be loose or faulty. Open the printer and check if there are any loose connections to the display panel.
