This is my identical problem that I copied from this community. "The screen on my HP Envy 4520 lights faintly but with no response to touch and nothing visible. I have tried unplugging it for an extended period of time and plugging it in again. If I hold the power button down, it won't turn off. If I press the power button quickly, it won't respond. When I use my Mac to look for the printer, it's offline. I've rebooted my wifi system. No response. on the printer. How can it be repaired or, given its age, should I replace it?"

I checked the identical comments and followed the suggestions for fixing, but nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, is working to resolve this issue.  It would appear that this printer has run its course and needs to be replaced.  Would you agree?

I understand your HP Envy 4520 and the issue where the touchscreen only lights up faintly, doesn’t respond, and nothing is visible on the display. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power cycle the printer completely
– Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall.
– Wait 60 seconds, then plug directly into the wall socket (no surge protector).
– This clears a stalled power board but won’t fix a failed display module.

Check the power button behavior
– A faintly lit screen with no response to long-press or short-press usually means the printer is stuck in a firmware freeze.
– If holding the power button does nothing, the control panel is not communicating with the main board.

Try a “hard reset” using the rear USB wake method
– Plug the printer into power → wait 10 seconds.
– Connect a USB cable from the printer to your computer.
– If there is no sound, no detection, no wake, the logic board is unresponsive.

Test for signs of life
– Check if the ink carriage moves when plugging the printer in.
– If the carriage stays parked and silent, the main logic board has failed.
– If it moves briefly but the screen stays blank, the control panel screen has failed.

Consider the age and known failure mode
– The Envy 4520 series is known for control panel/backlight failures after several years.
– HP no longer manufactures replacement display panels for this model.
– Board-level repair is possible but typically costs more than the printer itself.

Realistic resolution
– If the printer has no responsive screen, no power button function, and no USB connection, the failure is hardware-level.
– In this state, replacing the printer is the recommended option, as repair is rarely cost-effective for this model.

I hope this helps.
