Hi @BigAl1234,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" on your HP printer typically indicates an issue with the printer’s hardware or ink system. Here’s a detailed guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and from the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds to ensure all capacitors and memory are fully discharged.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall outlet.
  • Turn the printer back on and see if the issue is resolved.

2. Check Ink Cartridges

  • Open the printer’s access door to expose the ink cartridges.
  • Gently remove the ink cartridges from their slots.
  • Check for any protective tape or packaging that may still be attached.
  • Inspect the cartridges for damage or leaks.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly moistened with water to clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their slots, ensuring they are properly seated.

3. Check for Paper Jams

  • Look inside the printer for any jammed paper or debris. Remove any obstructions carefully.
  • Make sure there is no paper or foreign objects in the paper feed area.

4. Perform Printer Self-Test or Diagnostic

  • Some HP printers have built-in diagnostics or test functions. Check your printer’s manual or settings menu for a self-test or diagnostic option.
  • If you can access the printer’s control panel or settings, try printing a test page to see if the issue persists.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit the HP support website and look for any available firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest firmware if available.

6. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

  • Navigate to the printer’s settings or maintenance menu on the control panel.:
  • Find and select the option to perform a factory reset. This will restore default settings and may resolve underlying issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
