Printer is a 8600 plus Serial CN37FD2H57. Windows pc. Printer was printing fine, black ran out so I replaced it with a genuine hp 950XL. Got "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then back on. If problem persists contact HP" Tried to reach a person at HP for4 hours to no avail. Sent ink Back thinking it was a defective cartridge got replacement and got the same thing "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then back on. If problem persists contact HP". turned it off and on again, unplugged it, reseated the cartridge, reseated the print head. Turned it on without cartridges, turned it on with out print head. Same thing. So here we are. Thanks for any help

Hi @Dan733,

Thank you for sharing the above information.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

D) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

Is the print head available under some warranty program, should I take it out and clean it. Again tried to get phone support to no avail, tried to find a print head from HP to no avail. The person I reached on the phone at Canon, right away, thought it may be the print head, Imagine that a real person at canon helping with an HP. I thanked him and when asked I told him that are 10-15 year old canons are doing just fine. Wish HP could be more like that.
