I am trying to set up a new HP Envy 6500. It has got stuck on the “scanning the alignment page” - 20 Minutes at least so far. What have I done wrong, and what can I do to move it on?

@Estragon, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Envy 6500 is stuck on the "scanning the alignment page" step, it can be due to various reasons like incorrect placement of the alignment page, communication issues, or printer software glitches. Below are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check the Alignment Page Placement:

  • Make sure the alignment page is placed correctly on the scanner glass. Align the page with the guides on the scanner bed.

Restart the Printer:

  • Sometimes restarting the printer can resolve temporary glitches.
  • Turn off the printer using the power button, wait about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.

Re-run the Alignment Process:

  • Cancel the current alignment process and try re-running it. Make sure to follow the instructions precisely.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the scanner lid and check for any obstructions or dirt on the scanner glass that might be preventing the printer from reading the page correctly.

Update Printer Software:

  • Ensure that your printer software is up-to-date. You can check for the latest drivers and software updates on the HP support website.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Wait for a minute before reconnecting the power cord and turning the printer back on.

Check Network/USB Connection:

  • If you are using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the network.
  • If connected via USB, ensure that the cable is securely connected.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
