macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hello!

I have a problem with my HP ENVY 5540 printer. My macbook and my phone do not recognize my printer, it says 'error' or 'no printer found'. I tried to shut down everythin, reset everything, but I still can't connect my printer to my devices. Morevover, the HP Smart app doesn't recognize the printer either even though all the devices were connected to the same WI-FI.

 

could you please help me ASAP, I need to print important documents?

I understand the printer is not detected by any devices to print. Let us try these steps:

 

Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the devices

  • Make sure the printer and the Mac are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.

Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

 

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Also, check for any software updates on Mac and iOS device

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

 

You may print from your Mac and iOS device using the AirPrint option and check if that helps as shown in this document - Printing with Apple AirPrint (Mac) and HP printer setup (Apple AirPrint for iPhone, iPad)

 

If the printer is not connected to the network,

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.
