HP instant Inc. status message:  cannot print.  Visit www.hpinstantink.com for information.

I went on the website and the only thing I could see is that my printer has expired because of warranty is expired.  I tried adding my printer back on, and I also updated my billing information.  I turned off my computer, turned and printer, and turned it back on twice and I’m still receiving the same error message.

Hi @Maritza8

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you are encountering an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 printer, specifically related to HP Instant Ink, where you are unable to print, and you're seeing the error message suggesting you visit hpinstantink.com.

This error typically means there’s an issue with the HP Instant Ink subscription, such as an expired plan or payment issue. Since you’ve already tried updating your billing information and restarting your devices, here are additional steps you can take to resolve the problem:

1. Check the HP Instant Ink Subscription Status:

  • Log in to your HP Instant Ink account (at HP Instant Ink) and verify the status of your subscription. Even if you updated your billing information, there might be a problem with the payment or subscription renewal.
  • If your subscription expired, you might need to either renew it or change your subscription plan.
  • If you are not planning to continue with HP Instant Ink, you can cancel the service and switch back to regular ink cartridges.

2. Check Printer's Connection to Instant Ink Service:

  • Make sure that the printer is properly connected to the internet so it can communicate with the HP Instant Ink service.
  • Check if the printer shows the HP Instant Ink status on its screen or through the HP Smart app (if installed). Sometimes, the printer might not be able to reach the Instant Ink server due to network issues.

3. Verify Printer's Connection to the Wi-Fi Network:

  • Ensure your printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network, as it needs to communicate with HP’s servers to verify your subscription and account.
  • Print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel to ensure the correct Wi-Fi connection (you can usually find this under Printer Settings or Network Settings).

4. Restart the Printer and Router:

  • Power cycle your printer and router by turning both off and waiting for 10-20 seconds before turning them back on.
  • This ensures any temporary network or printer connection issues are resolved.

5. Perform a Printer Reset:

Sometimes, resetting the printer to its factory settings can resolve persistent issues.

  • To reset the printer:
    1. On the printer, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore or Restore Defaults.
    2. This will clear the printer’s memory, and you will need to reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.
    3. After the reset, re-add the printer back to HP Instant Ink and check if the issue persists.

6. Check for Firmware Updates:

An outdated firmware version can cause problems with HP Instant Ink communication.

  • Go to HP’s support page and ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. You can also check via the HP Smart app or directly from the printer’s control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
