I have my printer already paired with my laptop. When I try saving the document so I can print, I am unable to do so.

Hi @Sue5103

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're running into an issue where you can’t save and print your document after pairing your printer with your laptop. This could be due to a variety of reasons, such as printer settings, file format issues, or software conflicts. Let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot:

1. Check Printer Connection:

  • Confirm Printer Status: Go to Devices and Printers (or Printers & Scanners) on your laptop and check if your printer is listed as online and set as the default printer.
  • Test Print: Try printing a test page directly from your laptop to see if the connection is working properly. You can do this by right-clicking on your printer in the Devices and Printers section and selecting Print Test Page.

2. Check for Errors in the Printer Queue:

  • Open your print queue to see if there are any stalled print jobs. If there are, clear the print queue and try again.
    • Go to Devices and Printers > right-click on your printer > select See what's printing.
    • Clear any jobs from the queue if they’re stuck.

3. Save Document Properly:

  • If you're trying to save the document, make sure you are saving it in a format that your printer can handle. For example, PDF, Word, and Image files are commonly supported.
  • If you're using a program like Microsoft Word or Google Docs, try saving the file locally first and then printing it from that saved file.

4. Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Ensure no software or third-party applications are blocking your printer. Sometimes antivirus or firewall settings can interfere with the printing process. Try temporarily disabling your firewall or antivirus to see if the issue resolves.

5. Update Printer Drivers:

  • Outdated printer drivers can sometimes cause issues. Go to your printer manufacturer’s website (like HP’s website for HP printers), and check if there are any updated drivers for your specific model. Download and install the latest drivers.

6. Ensure the Correct Printer is Selected:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
