Hi, I have this error symbol showing up on my printer that will not let me print. I can not find it in the diagnostics anywhere. Has anyone seen this and what it means and how to fix.  Thank youIMG_0025.jpeg

Hi @mfmanning,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP printer is showing an E0 error symbol, and it’s preventing you from printing. Let’s go through a few steps to identify and resolve this issue.

a. Understand the E0 Error

The E0 (Error 0) on HP printers usually indicates a general or initialization error — often related to temporary firmware, connection, or sensor issues.

It can appear if the printer failed to complete startup or if a paper/panel sensor isn’t responding correctly.

b. Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the rear and from the wall outlet.

Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).

Power it on and check if the error clears.

c. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Open the front door, toner access area, and rear door (if available).

Remove any paper bits or foreign objects.

Make sure all panels are fully closed and properly latched.

d. Verify Cartridge Installation

Open the toner access door and ensure the toner cartridge is correctly seated.

Remove and reinstall it firmly until it clicks into place.

Close the door and restart the printer.

e. Perform a Factory Reset (if supported)

On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup → Service → Restore Defaults or Printer Maintenance → Restore Factory Defaults.

Confirm the reset and allow the printer to restart.

f. Update Firmware

Use the HP Smart app or visit support.hp.com → search your model → select Firmware.

Download and install the latest firmware update to fix any known E0-related bugs.

g. Check Power Source and Environment

Make sure the printer is connected directly to a stable wall outlet.

Avoid connecting it through a UPS or surge protector, which can cause intermittent power signals.

I hope this helps.
