HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

I have bought a new replacement printer head.....it is an exact original part....(so not some cheap copy), from a reputable supplier and it has not fixed the problem of "fixed or missing printhead"  the printer is about 8 yrs old but has not been  heavily used and has been trouble free up to now.

Is there anything else I can do........other than buy a new one?

Hi @Strudball,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating when replacing a part doesn't solve the issue. If you've replaced the printhead with a genuine part and are still encountering the "printhead has failed or is missing" error on your printer, here are some steps you can try before considering the purchase of a new printer:

Reset the Printer: Simple but sometimes effective, turning your printer off, waiting a few minutes, and then turning it back on can sometimes reset any error states.

Reinstall the Printhead: Sometimes the printhead might not be installed correctly. Remove the printhead and reinstall it, ensuring it's properly seated and connected. Check for any protective tapes or caps that might not have been removed.

Clean the Printhead Contacts: Dirty or oxidized contacts can cause detection issues. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to clean the contacts on the printhead and in the printer where the printhead installs.

Update the Printer Firmware: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve unrecognized hardware issues. Check the manufacturer's website for any updates for your printer model.

Check for Software Issues: Make sure that the printer software on your computer is up to date. Sometimes, drivers or printer software updates are necessary for compatibility, especially if your operating system has been updated recently.

Inspect the Printer for Physical Issues: Look inside the printer for any debris, paper jams, or anything else unusual that might be causing the printer not to function properly.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Hold down the power button while plugging the printer back in. Keep holding the button for another 30 seconds after plugging it in before releasing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
