Hi @TammyHFR

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Event Code 62.80.20 indicates a printhead failure or communication issue in your HP printer. This typically means the printer cannot detect or properly initialize the printhead.

Try these steps to resolve the printhead error:

1. Power cycle the printer

This clears temporary faults and resets internal sensors.

  • Turn off the printer
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet
  • Turn the printer on and check if the error clears

2. Remove and reseat the printhead

If your printer has a removable printhead (common in OfficeJet Pro models):

  • Open the cartridge access door
  • Remove all ink cartridges
  • Lift the latch and gently remove the printhead
  • Inspect for ink buildup or debris on the contacts
  • Reinsert the printhead firmly and reinstall cartridges
  • Close the door and restart the printer

3. Clean the electrical contacts

Dirty or oxidized contacts can block communication.

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the printhead
  • Also clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer
  • Let everything dry for 5 minutes before reinstalling

4. Update printer firmware

Outdated firmware can misreport hardware status.

  • Open the HP App
  • Select your printer
  • Go to Settings > Printer Updates
  • Install any available firmware updates
  • Restart the printer

5. Run Diagnose & Fix tool

This can detect and resolve deeper hardware communication issues.

  • Open the HP App
  • Go to Support > Diagnose & Fix
  • Follow the prompts while the printer is powered on and connected

If the error persists after these steps, the printhead may be physically damaged or electrically unresponsive.

Let me know your exact printer model and whether the printhead is removable—I’ll guide you further based on its design.
