Hi @PS1991,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your HP printer displays the message "Printer cannot print: A problem has occurred," it can be due to various issues ranging from connectivity problems to driver issues. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:
1. Check Printer Status
Ensure Printer Is On:
- Make sure your printer is powered on and connected to a power source.
Check for Error Messages:
- Look for any specific error messages or warning lights on the printer's control panel that could provide additional clues.
2. Verify Printer Connections
Check Cables:
- Wired Printers: Ensure that the USB or Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer or network.
- Wireless Printers: Make sure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
Restart Devices:
- Power Cycle: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Restart Computer: Restart your computer to reset any temporary issues.
3. Check Printer Status on Computer
Set as Default Printer:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 10/11) and ensure that your printer is set as the default printer.
Check Printer Queue:
- Open the printer queue from the Devices and Printers window and clear any stuck print jobs. Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause issues.
4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Windows: Go to Device Manager, find your printer under Printers, right-click it, and select Update driver.
- HP Software: Download and install the latest printer driver from the HP Support website.
- Uninstall Printer: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Remove device.
- Reinstall Printer: Add the printer again by following the installation instructions from the HP Support website or using the HP Smart app.
5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP Support to diagnose and fix common printing problems.
6. Check for Firmware Updates
Update Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check for updates on the HP Support website and follow the instructions to update the firmware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
