HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

My printer has this reported problem (by many on this board). I tried the recommended fixes and none work. Others have even changed the control board.  I see each one of these reported problems are "closed" on this board. What is next? Is my only option to purchase a new printer? Seems like if many people have this problem, the problem is the printer.

Printer turns on, screen is blank (no logo or anything), only the icons around the screen are lit. Doesn't make the typical start-up noises either.

Doesn't detect via USB or Wi-Fi.

HP Print utility doesn't help - can't detect the printer.

How did this happen?

  • Power surge?
  • Firmware update or downgrade that failed?
  • Undocumented reset command?
  • Any physical damage?

 

How long have you had this printer?

Even a used 7740 on eBay is not cheap, possibly it could be repaired.

Your printer 7740 is one of the few printers than can use non-hp ink.

I bought the printer in 2021.
I have not used non-hp ink.
There have been no power surges, no firmware updates, no undocumented reset commands, no physical damage.
The video did not work for me. As the display screen is blank except for the three icons on the left, which do nothing when I press them.

This printer was working fine up until this point. So many other people have reported the same problem, yet I do not see that HP has reported a fix. Instead, their reported problem message has been closed.

I'm wondering if this is planned obsolescence, so customers are forced to purchase a new printer.

If the buttons are not functional the printer is busted.  These things happen, sorry.

 

I have HP LJ  cm1415 since 2010 and had to clean the pickup roller once since I bought it.  It accepts every type of cheap non-HP toners.

 

I cannot recommend repairing unless there is a factory service near you that has reasonable prices.  A circuit board for 7740 goes for $50 but comes from China.  Prices on eBay range from 200 to 400 for used to new 7740 printers.

 

You might consider one of these printers that can use (eventually) use any type of toner.
