I have HP 8720 Office Jet Pro and it will not accept a top margin when printing from Word.  It starts at the top of the sheet.  Otherwise it works fine.

Hi @cwcarroll,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is not properly applying the top margin settings when printing from Word. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue.

Check Page Setup in Word:

  • Open your document in Word.
  • Go to the Layout tab and click on Margins.
  • Select a predefined margin or choose Custom Margins.
  • In the Page Setup dialog box, ensure the Top Margin is set to your desired value. Click OK to apply the settings.

Check Printer Settings:

  • On your printer, navigate to the Printer Settings and ensure there is no setting overriding the margins. Some printers have settings that can adjust the printable area of the paper.
  • If your printer has a borderless printing option enabled, it may not allow a top margin. Turn off borderless printing in the printer settings.

Ensure Proper Paper Size:

  • Verify that the paper size in Word matches the paper size set on the printer.
  • Go to File > Print, and ensure the correct paper size is selected in both Word and the printer properties.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that your printer's drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause issues with printing settings.
  • Visit the HP Support page to download and install the latest drivers for your printer.

Check the Print Preview:

  • Before printing, check the Print Preview in Word. If the top margin appears correctly in the preview, the issue may be with the actual printing process. If the preview shows the margin correctly, you may want to try printing to a different printer to isolate the problem.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • If none of the above steps work, you could try resetting your printer to its default settings. This can sometimes fix issues with persistent printing problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
