When using word, I cant print a message pops up that states: Load Plain, letter 8.5x11 in tray 1, or 1 sided jobs, touch "OK" to use the available paper.

NOTE: The paper drawer has paper in it.

My daughter was printing wedding invitation envelopes and must have changed some settings

Hi @Jen1993,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are encountering an issue where Microsoft Word prompts you to "Load Plain, letter 8.5x11 in tray 1" even though there is paper in the tray, it may be due to settings that were changed during your previous print job (like printing wedding invitation envelopes). Here is how you can address the issue.

Check Paper Size and Type in Word:

  • Go to the "File" menu in Word and select "Print."
  • Click on "Printer Properties" or "Page Setup" in the print dialog.
  • Make sure the paper size is set to "Letter (8.5x11)" and the "Paper Type" is set to "Plain Paper."

Restore Printer Default Settings:

  • Go to the printer settings on your computer:
    • Click "Start" and then "Settings" or "Control Panel."
    • Navigate to "Devices and Printers."
  • Right-click on your printer and choose "Printing preferences" or "Properties."
  • Check for any custom settings related to paper size or type that might have been applied and reset them to default.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Sometimes the print queue might hold onto previous print job settings. Clear the print queue by:
    • Right-clicking your printer in "Devices and Printers."
    • Selecting "See what's printing" and then "Cancel All Documents" under the "Printer" menu.

Check Tray Settings:

  • Verify the physical paper tray settings to ensure they align with the settings in your printer software. Ensure the paper guides in the tray are correctly adjusted to fit 8.5x11 paper.

Printer Reset:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and leave it for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in. This can help clear any temporary settings or errors.

Test Print:

  • After making these changes, try printing a regular document to see if the issue has been resolved.

By following these steps, you should be able to restore your printer to print on plain letter-size paper and resolve any conflicting settings from the previous print job.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
