HP Envy 6120e All-in-One Printer

I have been messaging hp customer service to no help, my brand new envy 6120e printer makes an awful whining noise constantly. I have had to switch it off because I can’t focus or sleep with it on, which totally defeats the point of a wireless printer. Hp are saying it’s normal noise but surely this isn’t normal? I’m convinced they just don’t want to replace it. I’ve tried absolutely everything suggested and nothing has fixed it.

Hi @Laauuurra1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand and I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with this issue. A constant whining noise from a printer, especially a brand-new one, is definitely unusual and not normal.

Here are a few things you can try, in addition to what you’ve already attempted:

  • Check for Obstructions or Loose Parts: Sometimes a small object or something loose inside the printer (like paper scraps or an improperly seated part) can cause abnormal noises. Open up the printer and check for anything out of place.
  • Perform a Printer Reset: While you've tried some troubleshooting steps, a full reset might help. Turn off the printer, unplug it for about 10 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes an update can address mechanical or operational issues that might lead to abnormal sounds.
  • Noise When Printing or Idle: If the noise occurs only during printing, it could be related to the printer’s mechanism, like the printhead or carriage. If it’s happening when idle, it might be due to the printer trying to move the printhead or calibrate itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
