Hi @Pennypathic,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If all the lights on your HP Deskjet printer are on and you're unable to turn it off by unplugging and plugging it back in, there may be a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no paper jams in the printer. Open the printer cover and check for any stuck paper. If you find any, carefully remove it.
  • Check Ink Cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and are not empty. Sometimes, issues with cartridges can cause the printer to malfunction.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and wait for about 30 seconds. Then, reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on. This can perform a soft reset and may resolve some issues.
  • Update Firmware: Visit the HP support website and check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve software-related issues.
  • Inspect for Obstructions: Check for any obstructions in the printer, such as foreign objects or debris that might be interfering with its operation.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: If the issue persists, you can try performing a hard reset. To do this, turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and any other cables connected to it. Wait for a few minutes, then reconnect everything and turn the printer back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
