Hi @Patary,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5258 is producing black-and-white scans with color stripes and blurry images. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this.

a. Clean the Scanner Glass and Lid

Open the scanner lid and clean the glass surface with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of water or glass cleaner (avoid spraying directly).

Clean the white backing on the lid as well; dirt or smudges can affect scan quality.

b. Check Document Placement

Ensure the document is aligned correctly on the scanner glass.

Use the alignment guides on the scanner to position your paper.

c. Select Correct Scan Settings

In HP Smart or your scanning software, select Black & White or Grayscale, not Color.

Choose a high-resolution setting (at least 300 dpi) to avoid blurriness.

d. Update Scanner / Printer Drivers

Go to the HP OfficeJet 5258 Drivers & Downloads page and ensure you have the full-feature driver/software installed.

Outdated drivers can cause scan artifacts or blurry output.

e. Test Scan with Different Software

Try scanning using Windows Scan app or HP Smart.

This helps determine if the problem is with the software or the scanner itself.

f. Check for Firmware Updates

Open HP Smart → Printer Settings → Update.

Updating firmware can resolve scanner performance issues.

g. Run a Scanner Diagnostic

Some HP printers have a Print/Scan Diagnostic tool available on HP Support.

Run the diagnostic to check for mechanical or sensor issues.

h. Inspect for Physical Damage

Check the scanner glass for scratches or the scanner carriage for obstructions that could cause streaks.

I hope this helps.
