I am trying to set up my  HP Officejet 8015e all in one printer. However, the control panel keeps saying “canceling”. I’ve tried turning off and back on.. can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong?

thanks!

@Srock71, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Here’s how to get it back to normal:

Power reset the printer:

Turn the printer on.

Unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer (while it’s still on).

Wait 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (not a power strip) and reconnect it to the printer.

The printer should restart — wait until it becomes silent or shows the home screen.

Update the firmware manually:

On the printer: Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update the Printer → Check Now.

If the “Canceling” message prevents navigation, skip this step for now — we’ll handle it via HP Smart later.

Re-add through HP App:

On your computer or phone, open HP App.

Tap “+” → Set up a new printer.

Follow prompts to reconnect Wi-Fi.

If HP Smart says “Printer not ready,” press the Wireless button once on the printer to re-enter setup mode (light should blink blue).

If the display still says “Canceling” after restart:

Try removing the cartridges while the printer is powered on (open the ink access door).

Wait 30 seconds, reinsert them, then restart the printer again.

Sometimes the issue is triggered by incomplete ink initialization.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
