Product = HP Office Jet Pro 8715

Printer was operating normally but stopped printing in the middle of a print job originating from my laptop via Bluetooth connection

Now the printer will not copy or print.  It receives commands to print from my computers via Bluetooth and it receives a command just make a copy because  I see the print jobs loaded in the que.

I cannot find any paper jams.  I have cancelled all print jobs in the que and retried.  I have shut the printer down and unplugged it.  But even though it receives commands to print or to make a copy - it just says “printing” and never proceeds

Hi @Boyd60

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel when the printer shows “printing” but never actually produces a page, especially after you’ve already checked for jams, cleared the queue, and restarted both the printer and computer.

You’ve taken all the right first steps, so let’s build on that carefully.

Here are the focused actions to try:

Power reset with cable check

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors) and power the printer back on.
  • This clears any stalled hardware state.

Test with a copy function only

  • Place a sheet on the scanner glass and press Copy.
  • If the printer still hangs on “printing,” the issue is internal and not related to Bluetooth or the computer.

Check ink cartridges and carriage movement

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Ensure cartridges are seated firmly and the carriage moves freely when the printer powers on.
  • If the carriage is stuck, gently move it to the center and reseat the cartridges.

Run printer diagnostics

  • On the control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report.
  • If the printer does not produce this report, it confirms the print mechanism is stalled.
  • If it prints, the issue may be with Bluetooth communication.

Reconnect using the HP App

  • Remove the printer from your computer’s Bluetooth devices.
  • Download or open the HP App.
  • Add the printer again using Wi-Fi or USB instead of Bluetooth.
  • Bluetooth printing can be unstable; Wi-Fi or USB ensures reliable communication.

Update firmware

You’ve already shown great persistence by checking for jams and retrying multiple times. If after these steps the printer still won’t produce even a copy or diagnostic page, it points to a mechanical or firmware fault inside the print system.
