Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer updated itself a couple nights ago and when I woke up, there was a brand new "missing or faulty printhead" message waiting for me. I've turned the printer off and on numerous times, and I continually see the alert light flash while the CMYK lights cycle through left to right. I just replaced the black ink and the rest are all relatively new.

I've tried a few different tactics I've seen online, but nothing has helped whatsoever. I worry that I'm actually making it worse and that there may be some simple fix I haven't thought of. I use the printer all the time and have never had a problem with the printheads. There's no way it was just a coincidence that they failed at the same time Windows updated.

Please let me know what I can do to hopefully resolve the issue so I can resume printing. Having it serviced is not an option for me, and I truly doubt that it's necessary. However, that's the cure-all I keep encountering online. I'm guessing there is some sort of problem with the drivers or a random setting in Windows. Help!

Welcome to the HP support community/

Reseat the printhead up to three times

  1. Open the door to access to the ink cartridges.

  2. Wait until the carriage stops moving before you continue.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer.

      warning:

You must disconnect the power cord before reaching inside the printer.

  4. Lift the carriage latch, slightly lift the printhead, lower the printhead back into the carriage, wiggle the printhead left and right, and then lower the carriage latch to lock the printhead into place.

  5. Close the ink cartridge access door.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then check the control panel for the error message.

  7. Sometimes error messages persist after inserting the printhead. If the error message persists, repeat the steps to reseat the printhead up to three times.
