Hi @Rhonda6327 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Envy 6550 indicates there's no paper in the tray despite it being loaded, it can be due to several reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:

1. Check the Paper Tray and Paper Loading

  • Ensure Proper Loading: Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the tray. The paper should be aligned properly and not too tight against the sides of the tray.
  • Paper Size and Type: Verify that the paper size and type match the printer settings.
  • Tray Position: Confirm that the paper tray is fully inserted into the printer.

2. Inspect the Paper Sensors

  • Clean the Sensors: Sometimes, dust or debris can block the paper sensors. Open the printer and gently clean the sensors with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Check for Obstructions: Look for any foreign objects inside the printer that might be interfering with the sensors or the paper path.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can often reset the internal sensors and clear any errors.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers  Software and Drivers for HP ENVY 6055 All-In-One Printer

  • Driver Update: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Visit the HP Support website to download the latest drivers.
  • Reinstall Drivers: Sometimes, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers can resolve communication issues.

5. Printer Settings and Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check Settings: Ensure that the printer settings on your computer match the paper size and type in the tray.
  • Firmware Update: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer and install it if necessary.

6. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it is still on.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  4. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the power source and the printer.
  6. Turn the printer back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
