When printing a spreadsheet from Excel, Print Queue says "Printing" then "Sent to Printer" and printer makes noise like it's going to print.  Then queue shows "Error" right after "Sent to Printer".

Hi @Larry1052,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

This is a common issue where the print job reaches the printer but fails before printing. The fact that the printer makes noise and then shows an Error in the queue means the printer is communicating with the PC, but something is blocking the actual print process, usually a driver, spooler, or document format issue.

Here’s the troubleshooting guide:

Steps to Fix “Error After Sent to Printer”

1. Restart Print Spooler

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Find Print Spooler, right-click → Restart.
  • This clears stuck jobs.

2. Clear Print Queue

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer → Open Queue → Cancel all jobs.

3. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver

  • Download the latest driver for your printer: Official HP® Support.
  • Install the Full Feature Software and Driver for your model.
  • Restart your PC after installation.

4. Run HP App

5. Check Excel Print Settings

  • In Excel:
    • Go to File > Print.
    • Ensure the correct printer is selected.
    • Set Print to PDF as a test. If the PDF prints fine, the issue is with the printer driver.

6. Disable Advanced Printing Features

  • Go to Printer Properties > Advanced.
  • Uncheck Enable advanced printing features.
  • Apply and retry printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
