The control panel asterisk light is on ( yellow) and the unit will not print. No other lights are on I opened up the machine and checked for paper jams and removed and reinserted the ink cartridge and turned the printer off and on. The light is still on. What should si do now?

Hi @Harree,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already taken some good troubleshooting steps. Since you've checked for paper jams and reinserted the ink cartridge, the next steps might involve more specific troubleshooting for your particular HP printer model.

Here are a few additional things you can try.

  • Check for any error messages: Sometimes, printers will display error messages on their control panels that can give you more information about what's wrong. If you see any error messages, note them down and look them up in the printer's manual or online.
  • Inspect the ink levels: Ensure that the ink cartridges have sufficient ink. If they're low, replace them with new cartridges and see if that resolves the issue.
  • Clean the printhead: Sometimes, a dirty printhead can cause printing issues. Most printers have a maintenance or cleaning option in their settings menu. Try running a printhead cleaning cycle to see if that helps.
  • Reset the printer: Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve issues. Try turning off the printer, unplugging it from power, waiting for a few minutes, and then plugging it back in and turning it on again.
  • Update printer firmware: Check if there are any available firmware updates for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve software-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
