Hi @CY17

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when the printer keeps switching between single‑sided and double‑sided printing, especially when you’ve already tried adjusting the settings.

Let’s go step by step to make sure the default stays consistent.

Step 1: Set Default Print Preferences in Windows

  • On your Windows computer, open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right‑click your printer and select Printing Preferences.
  • Under the Layout or Finishing tab, look for Print on Both Sides.
  • Select Off (or Print One Side Only) and click Apply.
  • This ensures the default is saved at the system level.

Step 2: Adjust Settings in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select your printer, then go to Printer Settings > Preferences.
  • Confirm that Two‑Sided Printing is disabled.
  • Save the changes so the app remembers your preference.
  • If you don’t have the app installed, you can download it here: HP App for Windows

Step 3: Check Application Print Settings

  • When printing from Word, Excel, or PDF viewers, go to Print > Printer Properties.
  • Ensure Print on Both Sides is unchecked before printing.
  • Some applications override system defaults, so confirming here helps.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit the driver page for your printer model: HP Software and Driver Downloads
  • Enter your printer model and operating system, then install any available firmware updates.
  • Restart the printer after updating.

Step 5: Run Diagnose & Fix

  • In the HP App, select your printer.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Allow the tool to scan—it can automatically repair preference conflicts.

You’ve already shown patience by adjusting the settings often, and these steps will help lock in the one‑sided option so you don’t have to keep changing it.
