@Limasawa1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Flashing Orange Lights on HP DeskJet 2710e!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are experiencing an issue where all orange lights flash after printing and resetting the printer using the on/off button hasn't resolved the issue, you can try the following steps:

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Check for any paper jams inside the printer. Open the paper tray and inspect carefully for any paper pieces stuck.
  • Remove any jammed paper carefully to avoid damaging internal components.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date.
  • Visit the HP Support page and search for your printer model to download the latest firmware updates.

Clean Print Cartridges:

  • Remove the print cartridges and inspect them for debris or dirt.
  • Clean the print cartridges gently with a lint-free cloth.

Check Print Cartridges:

  • If the print cartridges are installed incorrectly or are low on ink, it can cause issues.
  • Reinstall the print cartridges and ensure they are seated properly.
  • Check ink levels and replace cartridges if necessary.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I have tried all steps but no success.  When i tried firmware update i was led down a junglle of options and got to update be sheer luck.  just as i thought i had arrived the update was greyed out.  This really is the most complicated unuser friendly system

@Limasawa1, I completely understand how frustrating this must be. You're just trying to get your printer working, and instead, you're stuck navigating a maze of options—definitely not the experience we want you to have!

Since you've already tried all the recommended steps and even attempted the firmware update (which led to more confusion—totally get that!), let's try a few other things to get this sorted:

Check for Any Specific Error Codes

Sometimes, a flashing orange light pattern can indicate a specific issue. Do you see any error messages on your computer or the HP Smart app? That might give us a clue.

Power Cycle with a Hard Reset

Unplug the power cable from the printer while it's still turned on.

Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in.

Turn the printer back on and see if the issue persists.

Try Updating the Firmware Again

If the update was greyed out, it might be due to one of these reasons:

The printer wasn’t properly connected (USB or Wi-Fi).

The firmware was already up to date.

The HP update tool glitched.

You can try updating the firmware through the HP Smart app instead:

Open HP Smart on your computer or phone.

Click on your printer, then go to Advanced Settings or Printer Home Page.

Look for the firmware update option and try running it again.

Check the Cartridge Door and Paper Alignment

If the printer thinks the cartridge door is open or the paper isn’t aligned properly, it might trigger the flashing lights. Double-check to make sure everything is seated correctly.

Let me know how it goes, and if nothing works, we’ll figure out the next step together. You shouldn’t have to struggle through this alone! 😊

Looking forward to your update!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

None of those text book solutions work.  I have found the solution;  When i press PRINT the default option for my 2710e comes up as scan only.  I cannot delete this option.  Then, when I do manually select anotther 2710e option it has to be the right one to avoid flashing orange lights and reboot.  This is a pretty schonky approach to faultless printing having to manually reset everything.  If my printer is non-scanning why does it come up `scan only`.  Thank you

Nothing works for this issue.  I have tried all standard procedures advised.  This issue is simple.  When i print from a work doc I get Scan only -2710e so I have to select HP 2710E print.  If I have to print from an attached doc in an email, (pdf etc) then I get a completely different device number HP5C60BAA7EA44.   It seems this issue is beyond the capability of HP to solve.

Hi @Limasawa1

I truly appreciate your patience and the time you've spent troubleshooting this issue. I understand how frustrating it is when a printer doesn't function as expected, especially after following all the recommended steps.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

It sounds like your printer may be encountering a device recognition issue when printing from different applications, leading to inconsistent printer naming and flashing orange lights.

Here are some additional steps that might help resolve the issue

Check Default Printer Settings

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Ensure HP 2710E is set as the default printer.
  • If multiple instances of the printer appear, remove the incorrect ones.

Update Printer Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Printers, right-click your HP printer, and select Update driver.
  • Alternatively, download the latest drivers from HP’s official support page.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and restart to see if the error disappears.

Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.
  • Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.
    https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds while unplugged.
  • Reconnect and turn it on.

If the issue persists, HP phone support may need to manually resolve the device recognition problem.

Let me know if you need help with any of these steps!

Thanks,

Hawks_Eye
