Hi @john198079,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet Plus 4152 is showing an E4 error (paper jam) with blinking orange and solid blue lights. Since the printer hasn’t been used in months, there may be dust buildup or a false paper jam. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this:

1. Check for a Real or False Paper Jam

  • Press the Cancel (X) button on the printer to try clearing the jam automatically.
  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord for safety.
  • Look inside the following areas for any jammed paper or debris:
    • Input Tray (where you load paper)
    • Output Tray (where printed paper comes out)
    • Cartridge Access Area (open the front door and check inside)
    • Bottom of the Printer (flip it carefully and check underneath)
    • Document Feeder (if you use it for scanning/copying)
  • Remove any stuck paper gently with both hands to avoid tearing.

2. Clean the Paper Rollers

  • Remove all paper from the input tray.
  • Press and hold the Power button, then:
    • Press the Cancel button (X) 3 times.
    • Press the Start Copy Color button 7 times.
  • Release the Power button. The printer will clean its rollers.

3. Manually Clean the Rollers (If Needed)

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Raise the input tray and hold the input tray shield (don’t remove it).
  • Use a flashlight to locate the gray rollers inside.
  • Lightly dampen a cotton swab with water (no alcohol or cleaner).
  • Rotate the rollers upward while pressing gently with the swab.
  • Let the rollers dry completely before turning the printer back on.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on.

5. Prevent Future Paper Jams

  • Use flat, undamaged paper that matches the supported size.
  • Load at least 5 sheets, but don’t overfill the tray.
  • Adjust the paper guides to fit the stack snugly.
  • Avoid printing in a dusty area and remove paper when not in use.

I am attaching this article for your reference.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
