@kevin-kenny_47,

Welcome to our HP Community forum! 🍀

My response post-research turned out to be a wee bit longer than I anticipated -my apologies!

If I understand it correctly, you are experiencing an offline status when trying to connect your HP ENVY 6020 printer to a Mac desktop. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check Printer Connection Type:

  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure both the printer and Mac are connected to the same network.
  • If using USB, unplug and reconnect the cable, then check if the Mac detects the printer in System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

2. Restart Everything:

  • Restart the printer, Mac, and router to refresh network connections.
  • Turn the printer off, unplug it for 30 seconds, and turn it back on.

3. Reset the Printing System (Mac):

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Ctrl + click) the printer and choose Reset Printing System.
  • Re-add the printer by clicking + (Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax...) and selecting it from the list.

4. Ensure Printer is Set to Online:

  • Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the printer, then check if Use Printer Offline is selected -if so, uncheck it.

5. Run HP Smart App Setup:

  • Download HP Smart from the Mac App Store.
  • Open the app, select Set Up a New Printer, and follow the instructions to reconnect.
  • If the printer doesn’t appear, click Add Printer and manually select it.

6. Update macOS & Printer Firmware:

  • Check for macOS updates in System Settings > Software Update.
  • Update the printer firmware using the HP Smart app or HP’s support website.

7. Assign a Static IP (If Using Wi-Fi):

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel.
  • Note the IP address and enter it in a browser to access the printer’s web interface.
  • Under Network Settings, assign a Static IP.
  • Re-add the printer using IP mode in Mac’s Printers & Scanners settings.

Btw, here’s a step-by-step guide to setting a Static IP for your HP ENVY 6020 printer and adding it manually via IP mode on a Mac if needed:

Step 1: Print a Network Configuration Page:

To find the printer’s current IP address:

  1. On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi and Information (i) buttons together until the status page prints.
  2. Look for the IP address under the "Wireless" section. Example: 192.168.1.100.

Step 2: Access the Printer's Web Interface:

  1. Open a web browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.) on your Mac.
  2. Type the IP address from Step 1 in the address bar and press Enter.
  3. This opens the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) for your printer.

Step 3: Assign a Static IP Address:

  1. In the HP Embedded Web Server, go to Network > Wireless Settings.
  2. Find the IPv4 Configuration section.
  3. Change IP address assignment from Automatic (DHCP) to Manual (Static IP).
  4. Enter a Static IP Address within your router’s range. Example:
    • IP Address: Keep the same as before (192.168.1.100).
    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0.
    • Default Gateway: Enter your router’s IP address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
  5. Click Apply and restart the printer.

Step 4: Add the Printer Manually via IP Mode on Mac:

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click the + (Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax...) button.
  3. Select the IP tab (not Default).
  4. Enter the Static IP Address you set in Step 3.
  5. Choose Protocol: HP Jetdirect - Socket.
  6. In Name, type "HP ENVY 6020".
  7. Under Use, select HP ENVY 6000 Series or AirPrint (if no HP driver is available).
  8. Click Add.

Final Step: Test the Printer:

  • Print a test page to confirm the connection.
  • If still offline, restart your Mac, printer, and router, then try again.

Let me know if you need further assistance! 🚀

Kind Regards,
