Hi @plehne,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 2700 series printer is only saving the file instead of printing. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Make sure the correct printer is selected
When you click Print, choose HP 2700 Series from the printer list.
If “Print to PDF” or “Save as PDF” is selected, it will save instead of print.

Check if the printer is set as default
Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
Select your HP 2700 → Click Set as default.

Clear any stuck print jobs
Go to Settings → Printers & scanners → HP 2700 → Open print queue.
Cancel all documents and try printing again.

Turn off the Print to File option
In the print dialog, open Printer Properties or More settings.
Make sure Print to File is not checked.

Re-add the printer
Remove the HP 2700 from Printers & scanners.
Restart your PC → Add the printer again through Wi-Fi or USB.

Make sure you’re using the HP Smart app (for 2700e models)
Open the HP Smart app and make sure the printer shows Ready.
If it shows offline, reconnect through Add Printer.

Restart both printer and PC
Power off the printer for 30 seconds → Turn it back on.
Restart your computer and try printing again.

Check for driver issues
In Device Manager, expand Printers.
If you see the HP 2700 with a warning symbol, right-click → Update or reinstall driver.

I hope this helps.
