Hi @meori,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Deskjet Plus Ink Advantage 6475 printer is showing an error that the tray is open when it isn't, and there's an orange light indicating an error, here are several steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue:

Check and Confirm Tray Closure: Even if it looks closed, open the paper tray and close it firmly again. Make sure it clicks into place and is not loose.

Inspect for Obstructions: Look inside the printer for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be preventing the tray from closing completely or triggering the sensor. Use a flashlight to help see inside better.

Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for about a minute, and then plug it back in. This can help reset the sensors and clear any error states.

Check the Sensor: There might be a sensor that detects whether the tray is open or closed. Look for a small lever or switch around the tray area. Ensure it's not stuck or damaged. You can gently manipulate it with your finger or a pen to see if it's moving freely.

Update Printer Firmware and Software: Sometimes, bugs or issues are resolved through firmware updates. Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check this through the HP app or the printer’s control panel under settings.

Examine the Error Lights: Refer to the printer's manual to interpret what the specific pattern of the orange light might mean, as it can provide additional clues on the issue. The manual can usually be found online on HP's official website by searching for your printer model.

HP Print and Scan Doctor: If you're using a Windows PC, download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can diagnose and fix many common printer issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
