The screen on the printer reads "cartridge is not communicating".  New printer cartridge was installed and did not change the error.  I have HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e series.

What do I need to do?

Hi @CCFCaro,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Verify that the cartridge you installed is compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e series. Double-check that it is a genuine HP cartridge, as third-party cartridges can sometimes cause communication errors.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Turn off the printer and open the access door.
  • Remove the cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape or packaging material that might still be attached. Ensure nothing is covering the contacts.
  • Reinsert the cartridge, making sure it's securely locked into place.
  • Close the access door and turn the printer back on.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Carefully clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth to ensure proper contact with the printer.
  • You can also clean the contacts in the printer carriage gently using the same cloth.

Hard Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and into the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the issue is resolved.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Check for updates on the HP Support website and apply them if available. Updates can resolve bugs related to cartridge recognition.

Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If possible, try using another cartridge to see if it's an issue with the specific one you’re using, suggesting a potential defect.

Reset the Printer Settings:

  • Sometimes restoring factory settings or performing a printer reset can clear persistent errors. Check the user manual or HP support for steps specific to your model.

I hope this helps.
