Hi @brennerL

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation clearly. When the light stays on and printing is blocked—even with new cartridges—it’s often tied to a cartridge recognition issue or a setup interruption.

Let’s walk through a few steps that can help restore normal printing on your HP DeskJet 2852e:

Step 1: Power Reset the Printer

This clears temporary errors:

  1. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  2. Unplug it from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  5. Turn the printer back on.

Step 2: Check for Cartridge Errors

If the cartridge light is blinking or an “E” appears on the display:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove both cartridges.
  • Inspect for any protective tape still covering the copper contacts or ink nozzles.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.

You can also refer to HP’s cartridge troubleshooting guide for blinking light patterns and error codes.

Step 3: Clean Cartridge Contacts

Even new cartridges can have contact issues:

  1. Power off and unplug the printer.
  2. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  3. Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
  4. Let everything dry for 10 minutes before reinstalling.

Step 4: Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can block cartridge recognition:

Step 5: Check for Setup Incompletion

If the printer was never fully registered or setup:

  • Open the HP Smart app and check for any alerts or setup prompts.
  • If prompted, complete the setup to unlock full functionality.

Let me know what the printer’s display shows after these steps—especially if any lights blink or error codes appear. I’ll guide you through the next step based on that.
