Help. I'm getting this printer error on my officjet 8600. Hp printer error message 'There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off then on. If problem persists contact HP.

I have performed all the suggested 'fixes' and still have message.  This issue was precipitated by installing a 'non-HP' cartridge.

Hi @longball88,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding 'Problem with Ink System' on HP Officejet Pro 8600!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges

Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-HP cartridges might not be recognized properly by your printer. HP recommends using original cartridges to avoid compatibility issues. You can check for authenticity at the HP Anti Counterfeiting and Fraud Program.

Reset the Printer

Perform a complete reset to clear any errors:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source and the printer.
  3. Wait for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer. Turn the printer on.

Reseat the Ink Cartridges

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the cartridges and check for any residue or damage.
  3. Reinsert the cartridges into their slots securely.

Reseat or Replace the Printhead

If your printer uses a removable printhead, reseat it by opening the access door, slightly lifting and dampening it with a soft cloth. This might require multiple attempts. If reseating does not solve the issue, consider contacting HP for replacement parts.

Firmware Update

Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date as updates can resolve compatibility issues. On the printer control panel, access ePrint settings, then check for updates.

I hope this helps.
