Hi @Regina62,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are the general steps to try using off-brand ink cartridges with an Officejet 9018e printer.
Disable Automatic Updates (Optional)
- Some printers automatically update their firmware, which can prevent the use of off-brand cartridges. You might want to disable automatic updates to prevent this.
- Go to the printer's control panel.
- Look for the "Settings" or "Preferences" menu.
- Find "Printer Maintenance" or a similar option.
- Look for "Update Firmware" or "Automatic Updates" and disable it.
Enable Cartridge Protection Override (If Available)
- HP printers often have a feature called "Cartridge Protection" to prevent the use of non-HP cartridges. You might need to disable this feature.
- Go to the printer's control panel.
- Look for "Settings" or "Preferences."
- Find "Cartridge Protection" or "Cartridge Authentication" and turn it off.
- If there's an "Override" option, enable it.
Install Off-Brand Cartridges
- Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the existing HP cartridges.
- Install the off-brand cartridges firmly into their respective slots. Make sure they are seated correctly.
Reset the Printer
- Turn the printer back on.
- Wait for the printer to recognize the new cartridges. It might take a moment.
- If the printer prompts you to confirm that you are using non-HP cartridges, confirm it.
Align and Test
- After installing the cartridges, the printer might ask you to align them.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to align the cartridges.
- Print a test page to ensure the printer is working correctly with the off-brand cartridges.
Note:
- Results may vary, and not all printers will work with off-brand cartridges.
- The printer might display warnings or messages about using non-HP cartridges. You can usually bypass these, but it's essential to pay attention to any error messages.
- Be aware that using non-HP ink cartridges might void the printer's warranty.
Additional Tips:
- Make sure the off-brand cartridges are compatible with the Officejet 9018e.
- Check for any specific instructions provided with the off-brand cartridges.
- Keep in mind that the printer might not display ink levels accurately with non-HP cartridges.
- Always handle cartridges carefully to avoid damaging them or the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
