I have tried to install new cartridge as per instructions and have an error

@daveppu, Welcome to HP Support Community!

 

Follow the steps below-

 

Verify the cartridge numbers

Make sure the cartridge numbers match your printer and where the country/region the printer was purchased.

Go to HP Store and verify the cartridge numbers for your printer model and country/region. Replace any incompatible cartridges.

 

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer failures.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

Also, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

 

If you still have issues, use the document HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge for additional troubleshooting help.

I did the power surge check and it didn't solve anything.

The printer was fine before I replaced the cartridge, there can't be that much that can go wrong. The colour cartridge is very low but still shows as working, only the black cartridge is a problem.

System doesn't like downloading firmware, I think that is because I am not using wireless, I am using the USB cable.

This looks like a hardware issue.

This is the message I get when I use download support firmware:

The update failed on 1 printer. Please turn the printer off, then on, and retry the update.

Technical support - nearly a £ a minute in a queue on the phone when there is no clue when there will be an answer - no thanks. US and Canada have straightforward webchat support, doesn't seem to be available in UK. Poor customer service.

When I go to firmware download the file they send is called DJ2600_2021B.exe.

I think it is a hardware problem as well, why should changing a cartridge do that?
