i have a code 79 that will not allow me to use any buttons and it will only let me shut the printer off

If this is an M234 Laserjet do the following:

 

1. remove the toner cartridge.

2. unplug the printer, wait 1 minute and then plug in.

3. plug printer back in and wait for device to prompt for cartridge and install cartridge.

4. From the control panel, go to network setup and disable IPV6.

 

Your printer should now work properly. It appears that a recent firmware update had a bug related to IPV6 and disabling that protocol allows the printer to work. Issue should be fixed with next firmware update when it is released.
