The green prints with yellow stripes.  The blue prints with pink stripes.

I've cleaned the print heads.  The test page is beautiful. But printing then messes up the colors.

Hi @TMW111,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is experiencing color printing issues despite cleaning the printheads. Here are a few steps you can take to try and resolve this problem.

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that all ink cartridges, especially the ones for the colors showing issues (green and blue), have sufficient ink. Low ink levels can sometimes cause printing problems.
  • Clean Printheads Again: Perform a deeper cleaning of the printheads. Your printer should have a built-in utility for this in the printer settings or on the control panel.
  • Align Printheads: After cleaning, align the printheads. This can also be done through the printer's settings menu or control panel.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes firmware updates can fix bugs related to print quality.
  • Check Print Settings: Verify that your print settings match the type of paper you're using and the print quality settings are appropriate.
  • Use Genuine HP Cartridges: If you're using third-party or refilled cartridges, try switching to genuine HP cartridges. Non-genuine cartridges can sometimes cause color mismatch issues.
  • Print a Diagnostic Page: Print another diagnostic page to see if the color bands or stripes still appear. This can help identify whether the issue lies with the printer or the document you're printing.
  • Reset Printer: As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This should be available in the printer's settings menu.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have done all of these things and the printing is getting worse.  The test sheets show the blue and the yellow/green are not printing completely.

Any other ideas?
