Good day,

the original ink that came with the printer worked fine until it was ink was completed. When new ink was added the problem started. There was an error message indicating that there was a cartridge error. changed the cartridge, unplugged for some moments then plugged back in and the problem was not resolved.

Please assist me in figuring out this issue. I would appreciate it tremendously if some one has a similer issue or know what the problem is.

Hi @greendays,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Good day! I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing cartridge issues with your printer. It sounds quite frustrating, especially after taking the steps to replace the cartridge and reset the printer. Let's try a few more troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve this issue:

Ensure Genuine Cartridges:

  • First, make sure that the replacement cartridges are genuine and compatible with your printer model. Non-genuine or incompatible cartridges can often cause the types of errors you're experiencing.

Check for Protective Tape:

  • Sometimes, new cartridges come with a protective tape over the vent or contacts. Double-check to ensure that all such tapes have been completely removed before installation.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Dirty or damaged contacts can lead to recognition errors. Gently clean the metal contacts on both the cartridge and inside the cartridge slot in the printer. Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Wait for a few minutes after cleaning before reinstalling the cartridge to let the contacts dry completely.

Reset the Printer:

  • It sounds like you've already tried unplugging your printer, but let's try a full reset:
    • Remove the cartridges.
    • Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for about 1-2 minutes.
    • While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to release any remaining power and clear memory.
    • Plug the printer back in, reinstall the cartridges, and turn it on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there’s an available firmware update for your printer. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve issues related to cartridge recognition. You can usually find firmware updates on the  HP website under the support section for your printer model.

Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If possible, try another new cartridge, preferably from a different batch than the one currently causing the error. This can help determine if the issue is with a specific cartridge or batch.

Consult the Printer Manual or Error Documentation:

  • Review the printer’s manual for specific error codes and recommended solutions. Sometimes the manual offers additional steps or explanations specific to certain error messages.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
