Hi @nataliep123,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Let's troubleshoot the issue step by step to help you connect your HP printer to your computer and ensure it's ready for printing. Here are a few things you can try.

Check Printer and Wi-Fi Connection

Power Cycle the Printer and Router:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • After a few minutes, plug in and turn on your printer.

Connect Printer to Wi-Fi:

  • On your printer, navigate to the Wi-Fi settings and ensure it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
  • Print a network configuration page (usually found in the printer's settings menu) to confirm the connection.

Ensure Printer is Connected to the Same Network as Your Computer

  • Verify that both your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If your computer is connected to a different network or using a wired connection, switch it to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer.

Add Printer to Your Computer

For Windows:

Open Devices and Printers:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.

Add a Printer:

  • Click on Add a printer or scanner.
  • Wait for your printer to appear in the list, then select it and click Add device.

Install Necessary Drivers:

  • If prompted, install the printer drivers. You can also download the latest drivers from the HP website.

For Mac:

Open Printers & Scanners:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

Add Printer:

  • Click the + button to add a new printer.
  • Select your printer from the list and click Add.

Install Necessary Drivers:

  • If prompted, download and install the necessary drivers.

Check Printer Status

  • Ensure your printer is set as the default printer on your computer.
  • Check the printer queue for any stuck print jobs and clear them if necessary.

Bluetooth Connection (if applicable)

Enable Bluetooth:

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both your printer and computer.

Pair Printer with Computer:

  • On your computer, go to Bluetooth settings and search for nearby devices.
  • Select your printer and pair it with your computer.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website and update it if necessary.

Troubleshoot Using HP Smart App

Download HP Smart App:

  • Install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.

Add Your Printer:

  • Open the app and follow the instructions to add your printer.

Run Diagnostic Tools:

  • Use the diagnostic tools within the app to troubleshoot any issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
