Hi @OldHuddy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating this is, especially when the printer won’t shut down properly and the ink carriage is stuck on the right side with a diffuser error. This usually happens when the printer didn’t complete its shutdown cycle or there’s an obstruction preventing the carriage from moving.

Recommended Steps

1. Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • If the carriage still doesn’t move, continue below.

2. Check for Obstructions

  • Open the ink access door.
  • Look for:
    • Paper jams
    • Loose tape or packaging material
    • Broken plastic parts near the carriage
  • Remove any debris carefully.

3. Manually Release the Carriage

  • With the printer unplugged, gently move the carriage to the center.
  • Do not force it if it resists; check for stuck gears or broken parts.

4. Clean Diffuser Area

  • The diffuser error often relates to the ink system.
  • Check the ink tubes and diffuser for leaks or blockages.
  • If you see ink buildup, clean gently with a lint-free cloth.

5. Update Firmware

6. If Error Persists

  • The diffuser or ink delivery system may need service or replacement.
  • Contact HP Support for repair options

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
