Hi @Lou831,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw has stopped working correctly with duplex printing, and the second page is producing errors, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take.

Check Printer Settings:

On the Printer Control Panel:

  1. Navigate to Settings or Setup.
  2. Select Printing Preferences.
  3. Ensure that Duplex Printing or Two-Sided Printing is enabled.

From Your Computer:

  1. Open the print dialog when you are about to print a document.
  2. Select Properties or Printer Properties.
  3. Look for a setting related to duplex printing and make sure it is enabled.

Update Printer Drivers:

Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause issues with duplex printing.

  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Search for your printer model: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw.
  • Download and install the latest drivers and firmware for your printer.

Check Paper Settings:

Ensure that the paper size and type settings in the printer driver match the paper loaded in the printer.

  • Open the print dialog box and go to Printer Properties.
  • Check the Paper/Quality tab.
  • Verify that the paper type and size are correctly set.

Perform a Power Cycle:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Reset the Printer:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings or Setup.
  • Find and select the option to Restore Defaults or Reset.
  • Confirm the reset and allow the printer to restart.

Check for Paper Jams:

A paper jam can sometimes cause issues with duplex printing.

  • Open the printer and check for any jammed paper in the duplexer or other areas.
  • Remove any jammed paper carefully.

Clean the Printer Rollers:

Dirty or worn rollers can cause paper handling issues.

  • Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to clean the rollers.

Print a Duplex Test Page:

  • Print a test page to check if the duplex printing is working correctly.
  • If the issue persists, note any specific error messages or codes that appear on the second page and look them up in the printer’s manual or on the HP support site.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
