@delsa, Welcome to HP Support Community!
I see that the printer is in an error state, follow the steps below to isolate and resolve the issue-
Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Remove the ink cartridges and reset the printer.
-
Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
NOTE:
HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
-
Turn the printer on.
-
Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.
-
If you receive a prompt to print a calibration or alignment page, do so.
If the error message persists, continue to the next step.
Service the printer
Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.
Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.
To confirm your warranty status, go to HP Product Warranty Check. Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty products.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks. I doubted that it was a hardware issue as everything worked perfectly up until recently except that we have never been able to receive a fax with this machine and have never been able to get the HP web services app to properly configure despite having all correct passwords and google settings according to google references.
Anyway, for the moment, the subject problem has gone away. I did a total reset to factory defaults. Then I deleted every bit of HP software from the computer, redownloaded and reinstalled. It has been several hours now since the blue light and the error have reappeared, so maybe all is good.
