Hi @Patty491,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The E3 error on an HP 6400 printer typically indicates a paper jam or an issue with the paper feed mechanism. Here’s how you can troubleshoot it.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Check for paper jams:
    • Open the printer’s front and back covers.
    • Look for any pieces of paper stuck inside, particularly in the paper path, near the rollers or inside the cartridge area.
    • Gently pull out any jammed paper.
  3. Inspect the paper tray:
    • Ensure that the paper is properly loaded in the tray and is not jammed or misaligned.
  4. Clear the rollers:
    • Check the rollers for any debris or paper bits that might be causing issues. Clean the rollers gently with a soft cloth if needed.
  5. Reassemble and restart:
    • Once everything is cleared, close all covers and reconnect the power.
    • Turn the printer back on and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
