Hi @SB534,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer is experiencing a hardware watchdog error, which typically indicates a hardware malfunction or a problem with the internal components of the printer. Here’s what you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Restart the Printer: Since the printer is frozen and won’t respond, try to force a restart:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug the power cable back into the printer and turn it on.

2. Clear Print Queue (if possible): If you can access the print queue from your computer or device, try canceling the print job that caused the issue.

3. Update Firmware (if possible): If the printer allows you to access settings via a control panel or a web interface, check if there's a firmware update available. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve hardware-related issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer

4. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions: Open the printer and check for any paper jams or other obstructions that might be causing the problem. Clear any jams carefully.

5. Factory Reset (if necessary): As a last resort, you might consider performing a factory reset. This will reset all settings to their defaults and might help clear any internal issues causing the error. Be aware that this will erase all settings, so you may need to set up the printer again afterward.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
