Hello @Ant1919

That message usually appears when the printer isn’t detecting the cartridge correctly, even if it’s new. Here are the steps to resolve it:

1. Reseat the Toner Cartridge

  1. Power off the printer.

  2. Remove the toner cartridge.

  3. Gently shake it side-to-side and reinstall it firmly.

  4. Power the printer back on.

2. Check for Protective Seals

Make sure:

  • The orange pull-tab/seal has been fully removed.

  • No packaging material remains inside the toner bay.

3. Inspect Cartridge Chips

Ensure the gold contact chip on the cartridge is:

  • Clean

  • Not scratched or damaged
Wipe gently with a lint-free cloth if needed.

4. Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can misread new cartridges:
Menu → SettingsUpdate Firmware (or update via HP Support site).

5. Try Another Genuine HP Cartridge

If available, try a second HP toner.
These printers reject non-HP or defective chips immediately.

If the message persists after these steps, the cartridge chip may be faulty — HP can replace it under warranty.
