HI @Thom23,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are receiving a "depleted cartridge" error message even after replacing the cartridge, there are several potential causes and solutions to consider. Here's a detailed guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Verify Cartridge Installation
1.1. Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure Compatibility: Make sure the new cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Refer to the printer’s user manual or the cartridge packaging for compatibility information.
1.2. Proper Installation
- Remove and Reinstall Cartridge:
- Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
- Remove the new cartridge.
- Check for any protective tape or covers that might still be on the cartridge and remove them.
- Reinsert the cartridge, ensuring it clicks into place securely.
2. Check Printer Settings and Status
2.1. Reset the Printer
- Perform a Reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
2.2. Check for Firmware Updates
- Update Firmware:
- Visit the printer HP website to check for any firmware updates for your printer model. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve cartridge recognition issues.
3. Inspect the Cartridge and Printer
3.1. Check for Cartridge Damage
- Examine the Cartridge:
- Inspect the cartridge for any visible damage or defects. If the cartridge appears damaged, it may need to be replaced.
3.2. Clean Cartridge Contacts
- Clean Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridge.
- Gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with water.
- Reinstall the cartridge and plug the printer back in.
4. Perform Printer Maintenance
4.1. Align the Cartridges
- Run Alignment:
- Many printers have an option to run a cartridge alignment from the printer settings menu. This can help with recognition issues.
4.2. Clean Print Heads
- Run Cleaning Cycle:
- Access the printer’s maintenance menu and select the option to clean or align the print heads. This can sometimes resolve issues with cartridge recognition.
5. Verify Cartridge Detection
5.1. Check for Cartridge Errors
- Error Messages:
- Make sure there are no other error messages or lights on the printer that might indicate a different issue.
5.2. Test Another Cartridge
- Try a Different Cartridge:
- If you have a spare cartridge or can obtain one, try installing it to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the original cartridge or the printer itself.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
