Error message:   [fe80::5281:4Offeea:ded1%18]:3911

I have unplugged everything; moved printer next to router.  Same problem which is

Printer stays offline.  Occasionally it goes on line for a minute and prints whatever is in queue.

Less important.   Also red prints as yellow but on another printer it prints red.

Hi @MICHAEL596,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be waiting for prints that only come through sporadically, and then seeing red turn into yellow like a sunset gone wrong. Let’s walk through this together and get your printer back to behaving the way it should.

Issue 1: Printer Offline with Error [fe80::5281:4Offeea:ded1%18]:3911

This error is related to IPv6 network communication, and it often appears when the printer is struggling to maintain a stable connection with your router. Even though you've moved the printer closer, the issue may persist due to:

  • IP address conflicts
  • Sleep mode or power-saving settings
  • Firewall or antivirus interference
  • Outdated firmware or drivers

Steps to Fix the Offline Issue:

  1. Restart Everything
    • Power off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
    • Restart your router and computer.
    • Power the printer back on and reconnect to Wi-Fi.
  2. Disable IPv6 (if possible)
    • Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address into a browser.
    • Go to Network Settings > Advanced Settings > IPv6 and disable it.
  3. Set a Static IP Address
    • In the EWS, assign a static IP to avoid frequent changes that confuse your computer.
  4. Update Printer Firmware
  5. Use HP App (Windows)

Issue 2: Red Prints as Yellow

This is a classic magenta ink issue, and it’s often caused by:

  • Clogged printhead nozzles
  • Low or dried magenta ink
  • Misaligned cartridges
  • Software or driver glitches

Steps to Fix Color Printing:

  1. Run Printhead Cleaning (3 times max)
    • On the printer:
Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead
    • Print a test page after each cleaning.

  2. Check Ink Levels
    • Setup > Tools > Display Ink Gauge
    • Ensure magenta is not low or dried out.

  3. Align the Printhead
    • Setup > Tools > Align Printhead

  4. Try a Different App or File
    • Print a red image from MS Paint or Photoshop to rule out software issues.

  5. Update Drivers & Firmware

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
