The printer itself has power. I am able to receive and send faxes using the glass top including making copies. I cannot print from my laptop.
Our connection is wireless.
We have reinstalled the driver 3 times. Additionally on the settings we have looked at the sleep mode tried to make it sleep less. (am I saying that right?)
We have received an "Error State" message and sometimes "off line" message
We have tried to do test prints and we usually don't receive them with the exception of one time about a week later it was printed. Something triggered it.
It seemed this all started when we went to a different wireless internet provider and we received their modem. We were not happy with their service and changed to another wireless service. But this 2nd wireless provider is not producing prints either to this printer. By the way we have another wireless printer that has been working nonstop during the changes with the wireless internet providers.

Hi @camille1000,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Based on what you’ve described, the issue started after changing internet providers and persists even after reinstalling drivers and adjusting sleep settings. Your printer works for fax and copy, so the hardware is fine; the problem is network communication between your PC and printer.
Steps to Fix It
1. Restore Network Settings on Printer
- On the printer’s control panel:
- Go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
- This clears old Wi-Fi info.
2. Reconnect Printer to New Wi-Fi
- Use the printer’s Wireless Setup Wizard or HP app:
- Download the HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site.
- Add your printer and connect it to the correct Wi-Fi.
3. Remove Old Printer from Windows
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Remove all instances of your HP printer.
- Restart your PC.
4. Reinstall Using HP App
- Open the HP app and add a Printer.
- This ensures the correct IP and driver are installed.
5. Disable VPN or Firewall Temporarily
- VPNs or strict firewalls can block local printing.
- Disable them during setup.
6. Run HP Diagnose & Fix
- In HP Smart, go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix. 👉 Use Diagnose & Fix in the HP app to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
HP Official Guide
👉 HP printer is offline or unavailable | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
