@515gregs, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error “Printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed” on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8630 e-All-in-One Printer usually indicates a hardware issue with the printhead or its electrical contacts. Here's how to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

Reset the Printer (Basic Reset)

  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cable from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall and then the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Open and Reinstall the Printhead

Be very gentle with the printhead to avoid permanent damage.

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Wait for the carriage to move to the center.
  • Remove all ink cartridges.
  • Lift the latch to release the printhead assembly.
  • Carefully remove the printhead.
  • Gently clean the gold electrical contacts (on the back of the printhead and carriage) with a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Let it dry for a minute, then reinstall the printhead and ink cartridges.
  • Close the latch securely, shut the printer door, and power it on.

Update Firmware (if accessible)

  • If you can bypass the error temporarily, update the firmware using the HP Smart app or from the HP Support page.
  • Firmware updates may resolve detection issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
