My computer connects to the printer for printing but the printer does not connect to my internet for scanning. It did and then it stopped. I've checked the wifi. That's not it

@CaroleDS, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Envy 7640!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Envy 7640 is experiencing a connectivity issue specifically related to scanning, even though printing works fine. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Restart Everything

  • Restart the Printer: Turn it off, unplug it for a minute, then turn it back on.
  • Restart Your Router: Unplug your router for about 30 seconds and plug it back in.
  • Restart Your Computer: A fresh start can sometimes resolve connection glitches.

Check the Printer’s Network Connection

  • On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings and check if it's connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
  • If it shows "Not Connected," reconnect it by selecting your network and entering the password.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

Check Windows Services (For Windows Users)

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll down and find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Ensure it's set to Automatic and is running.

Reinstall the Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall the printer from your computer (Control Panel > Devices and Printers).
  • Download the latest drivers from HP official website and install them.

Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings

  • Sometimes, security software blocks scanner communication. Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus and test scanning.

Try these steps and let me know if the issue persists!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
